Card Trick is my favorite...

…quilt pattern. At least at the moment (and this moment now lasts for several years). And as these two finished blocks have been waiting 7+ years in a box for a purpose, I decided now to turn them into sofa cushions. We never have enough cushions so this comes handy and I can see them all the time now.

I think the pattern would show much better on a cushion if I would have also sewn a contrasting colored frame around the block, I should keep that in mind in case I feel the urge to make more card trick cushions. ;)

Italian Style Lentil & Sausage Soup

We already had a few really hot and summer promising days this month. So when I went food shopping all I could think about was summer time and barbecue. I bought some really yummy Bratwurst. But as it is May it is not so uncommon to have also cold and rainy weather the next day and this was exactly what happened this time. So of course nobody felt like a barbecue. All we wanted was a soul heating meal inside our snuggly home. So I came up with this recipe, using the ingredients that were supposed to be barbecued.

You will need:

3 sausages
1 onion

1 zucchini
3 mushrooms
4 tomatoes
(all diced)

1-2 cloves garlic

1cup (yellow) lentils
2 cups vegetable stock

optional pepper / salt
olive oil

Heat up olive oil in a large pot and gently start to roast chopped onion and sausages cut into small pieces. Cut vegetables.
When gently roasted add vegetables and stir often enough to avoid burning. Chop herbs and garlic and add to pot.
Let it simmer for 3 minutes before you add lentils and vegetable stock. Close pot and let it cook at least until lentils are done. (Check every now and then if there is still enough liquid to cover the lentils, if not add a little water.) If you are in a hurry you can serve it now, but if you have the time let it cook a little longer so that the taste will really develop and texture will get very smooth.
If you like you can add salt and pepper to it but I recommend not to or at least to be very careful with it as the sausages often are salty enough to spice up the entire dish.

writing blog posts again

I think I need to come back to writing blog posts again. After two years (of being a mother, still creating things and still cooking, also remodeling a home, and) not writing a single post, I feel the need of coming back to this "place".
